Competitive Game Ends In Walkoff As Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets Falls To Grass Lake Varsity Warriors

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets fell to Grass Lake Varsity Warriors 3-2 on Friday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at two in the bottom of the eighth when an error scored one run.
The pitching was strong on both sides. Grass Lake Varsity Warriors pitchers struck out six, while Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets sat down 10.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets were the first to get on the board in the second when an error scored one run.
Makenzie Hilberer (2027) singled to center field on an 0-2 count, which helped Grass Lake Varsity Warriors tie the game at one in the bottom of the sixth.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets took the lead in the top of the eighth. One run scored on another play, to give Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets the upper hand, 2-1.
Grass Lake Varsity Warriors jumped back into the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning after Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets committed an error, and Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets committed an error, each scoring one run.
Morgan “Mo” Conrad (2026) earned the win for Grass Lake Varsity Warriors. The pitcher surrendered seven hits and one run (zero earned) over eight innings, striking out six and walking none. Alexyn DuBois took the loss for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. The righty went seven innings, allowing two runs (zero earned) on four hits, striking out 10 and walking two.
Amanda Ley went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets in hits.
Hilberer (2027) went 1-for-2 at the plate and led the team with one run batted in. Leilah Smith (2026), Bree Salts (2025), Emily Brown (2025), and Hilberer (2027) each collected one hit for Grass Lake Varsity Warriors.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets will travel to Grass Lake Varsity Warriors for their next game on Friday.

Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets took Friday's game in dramatic fashion, with a 5-4 walk-off victory over Grass Lake Varsity Warriors. The game was tied at four in the bottom of the eighth when Brooklyn Biela grounded out, scoring one run.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets rallied for the victory despite trailing 4-0 in the sixth.
A passed ball put Grass Lake Varsity Warriors on the board in the top of the first.
Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a single by Alexyn DuBois, a walk by Amanda Ley, and a hit by a pitch.
Ley earned the win for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. The pitcher gave up zero hits and zero runs over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Makenzie Hilberer (2027) took the loss for Grass Lake Varsity Warriors. The hurler went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs (zero earned) on two hits, striking out none and walking five. DuBois started in the circle for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. The starter surrendered four hits and four runs (three earned) over six innings, striking out five and walking two. Morgan “Mo” Conrad (2026) stepped in the circle first for Grass Lake Varsity Warriors. The righty gave up four hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five and walking one.
DuBois drove the middle of the lineup, leading Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Bryn Biela and DuBois were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets. Ley led Hanover-Horton Varsity Comets with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game.
Leadoff hitter Emily Brown (2025) led Grass Lake Varsity Warriors with two hits in three at bats. Nadene Hubbard (2025), Brown (2025), and Hilberer (2027) each drove in one run for Grass Lake Varsity Warriors. Grass Lake Varsity Warriors stole four bases in the game.
